- 1). Apply matte fixatives to finished drawings. Shake can vigorously for one to two minutes to mix the chemicals thoroughly. Place artwork over a newspaper and hold can 10 to 12 inches above the artwork and apply an even coating over the paper. Allow fixative to dry for 10 to 15 minutes before moving the artwork.
- 2). Apply workable fixative throughout the drawing process. Apply workable fixative over permanent areas in the artwork that you are completely satisfied with and do not want to make any corrections to. Workable fixative will create a permanent, clear layer over the artwork to keep everything set. Shake can vigorously for one to two minutes to mix the chemicals thoroughly. - 3). Apply gloss fixative over finished artwork. Gloss finish will create a shiny, finished layer over the artwork while fixing everything in place permanently. Apply workable fixative over permanent areas in the artwork that you are completely satisfied with and do not want to make any corrections to.
