How to Remove Casting Resin From Electronics

    • 1). Turn the affected item off and unplug the power cord. Remove any cables or detachable accessories and set them aside.

    • 2). Sweep the surface of the item with a soft cloth to remove any dust, lint or loose debris.

    • 3). Combine equal measures of 70 percent isopropyl alcohol and distilled water to create a dilute cleaning solution.

    • 4). Dip a soft cloth into the alcohol mixture. Squeeze the material firmly to wring out any excess liquid - too much moisture can ruin electronic devices. Wipe the affected item with the damp cloth. Rub the surface gently to remove sticky residue and small casting resin spills. Dry with a paper towel. Repeat, if necessary.

    • 5). Cover heavy resin deposits with a soft cloth that has been moistened with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol. But sure the cloth is moist, not wet, before placing it in position. Leave the cloth in place for 10 to 15 minutes. The alcohol will dissolve the bonds of the resin without destroying the object it is bound to.

    • 6). Place the blade of a single-edged razor against the edge of the spill. Use the blade to gently pry the softened resin from hard plastic surfaces. Use a paper towel to dab more alcohol on the spill. Gradually work your way from the edges of the resin toward the center, until the entire deposit can be lifted from the surface.

    • 7). Wipe softened resin off sensitive surfaces, such as LCD screens, with a paper towel. Rub the affected area lightly. Do not apply excessive pressure. If any resin remains, replace the cloth and wait another 10 minutes. Re-apply alcohol as needed, to keep the cloth moist. Repeat until the resin has been completely dissolved.
