How to Make a BBQ Cooking Apron

    • 1). Take your measurements by measuring your waist and the length you would like your apron to be from neck to hem. Also measure the distance between your neck and your waist, and then your hem to your waist.

    • 2). Take a large sheet of paper. Draw a horizontal line that is seven inches long, starting at the edge of the paper. This will be the neck edge. Measure your neck-to-waist distance down from the horizontal line and make a dot there.

    • 3). Take your waist measurement and divide it in half. At the dot's level, draw another horizontal line starting at the edge of the paper that is as long as half your waist measurement. Draw a diagonal line between the end of your waist line and the end of your neck line.

    • 4). Take your waist-to-hem measurement. Measure that distance down from the waist line and make a dot to mark this spot.

    • 5). Make another horizontal line at the dot marking that matches the length of the waist line. Connect the waist line to the hem line. Add seam allowances of 1/2 inch to the neck, armhole, side and bottom edges of the pattern. Cut the barbeque apron pattern from the paper.

    • 6). Fold your apron fabric in half. Lay the paper pattern on top of the fabric, lining up the center front edge of the pattern with the folded edge of the fabric. Pin the pattern to the fabric and cut around it.

    • 7). Cut a 20-inch long rectangle of fabric that is 1-inch wide. Fold in 1/4 inch on each side of the width, so that the edges meet in the center. Iron the rectangle flat. Fold the short edges of the rectangle in 1/2 inch and iron them flat. Fold the rectangle in half along the width and iron it flat, so that the raw edges are hidden inside.

    • 8). Slide the binding you just made over the neck edge of the apron, so that the raw edges are covered. The excess length of the binding will be used as ties. Pin the binding to the apron, adjusting so that the tie ends are even. Sew along the open edges all the way down the binding. Make and attach similar binding for the armhole edges, adding extra length to the rectangle to fit and extend beyond the edge into waist ties.

    • 9). Bind the side and hem edges of the apron. Iron the entire apron.
