Do it Yourself Shoulder Steadicam

    • 1). Cut the five-foot section of PVC piping into a seven-inch section, a six-inch section, a five-inch section, a three-inch section and a two-inch section. Set the remaining piping aside.

    • 2). Apply a small amount of PVC glue to the end of the seven-inch section and insert it into one end of the 90-degree elbow.

    • 3). Apply a small amount of PVC glue to the end of the five-inch section and insert it into the other end of the 90-degree elbow.

    • 4). Drill a small hole in the top center of the T-joint. The hole should be directly above the center of the perpendicular opening of the T-joint.

    • 5). Place one of the lock washers onto the machine screw and insert the screw into the T-joint so the threaded end is sticking out of the hole you just drilled. Place the other lock washer and the nut on the outside portion of the machine screw and tighten them using the screwdriver and wrench.

    • 6). Take the fender washer and place it on top of the opening of your scrap piece of PVC pipe. Once you have the hole in the washer centered, hit it with ball pein end of the hammer. This will put a small dent in the middle of the washer that will help distribute the stress placed on the mounting furniture of the camera. Set the washer aside.

    • 7). Apply a small amount of PVC glue to the other end of the five-inch section of PVC and attach the T-joint to it so the perpendicular opening of the joint is facing the same direction as the seven-inch section.

    • 8). Apply a small amount of PVC glue to one end of the six-inch section and insert it into the perpendicular opening of the T-joint. The six-inch section should be parallel to the seven-inch section. These two sections will act as the handles for the shoulder mount.

    • 9). Apply a small amount of PVC glue to the three-inch section of PVC pipe and insert it into the remaining opening on the T-joint.

    • 10

Apply a small amount of PVC glue to the other end of the three-inch section of PVC and attach one of the 45-degree joints so that the opening in the joint is facing away from the two handle sections.

    • 11

Apply a small amount of PVC glue to the end of the two-inch section of PVC and insert it into the opening of the 45-degree joint.

    • 12

Apply glue to the other end of the two-inch section of PVC and attach the remaining 45-degree angle joint so the remaining opening faces a direction that is parallel to the five- and three-inch sections.

    • 13

Apply glue to one end of the 90-degree PVC electrical conduit elbow and insert it so the remaining end of the conduit is parallel with the seven-inch and six-inch handle pieces. The conduit elbow is the part that will be resting over your shoulder.

Place the fender washer on the machine screw with the dent facing outward and attach the camera to the end of the machine screw. You can then turn the wing nut to adjust the amount of tension that holds the camera in place.
