How to Find a Windows 98SE Product Key on the Installation CD

    • 1). Look at the top of your Windows 98SE installation CD. Occasionally the product key is printed directly onto the disk itself.

    • 2). Inspect the back of the installation CD case. There is a barcode printed with a 16-digit number listed under the barcode. This is the product key you are looking for.

    • 3). Check the cover of the Windows 98SE book that came with the installation CD. On the cover is the barcode and the 16-digit product key number.

    • 4). Look on the side or back of your computer. If you have an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) computer, the product key is often printed on the back or side of your computer.

    • 5). Type the number into the "Windows Product Key" page during the installation process. Once you do this, you do not need the installation product key anymore; however, you should hang onto the 16-digit code, just in case you ever reinstall the Windows 98SE operating system.
