What Is Hair Loss, Its Causes And Treatment?

Hair loss is the reduction and ultimate loss of hair on the scalp. In some cases hair loss also occurs in the other parts of the body. Its medical name is alopecia. It may b temporary or permanent and may have different forms. The general type of hair loss that occurs steadily is called androgenetic alopecia or "male pattern baldness". The reasons are many hormones and it is inherited disease.

There are different patterns of hair loss and all types consist of alopecia areata that comes in patches. Telogen effluvium is faster and shows its symptoms after suffering from fever or sudden weight loss and traction alopecia is the reduction of hair because of force used to form hair styles. In total, hair loss usually occurs in men and women, but the rate of hair loss is noticeable and prominent in men. Some people may lose more hair. Rarely, this disease causes complete loss of hair on the head, face and body.

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is end product of reaction of enzyme 5-alpha-reductaste and the testosterone hormone in the scalp. DHT causes hair loss because of its binding with receptor sites on the scalp and hair follicles. This interrupts the process essential for frequent healthy hair development because it sends false signals to the cells that help in the proper growth of hair. The reason of hair loss in men usually in the temporal, crown and vertex is due to the position of DHT that are present in those areas. The sweat glands are responsible to take the DHT to those areas and thus, casing the hair loss.

Herbal treatment is a drug available in two forms to treat different conditions. Oral minoxidil is used in the treatment of high blood pressure and Herbal treatment solution is used to treat hair loss and baldness. The discovery of its effects on hair loss and regrowth came about with the treatment of high blood pressure and it results in reversal of male baldness.

The risk is experiencing hair growth in areas that are not desired because of accidental application of minoxidil. The only method to avoid is to practice extra care with the application of the drug and the abrupt washing of any part not desired for hair growth. The other common risks are typical skin itching and frustration of the treated area. These usually drop after two weeks of use, if not then the use is to be stopped and consultant from a physician is needed.
