- 1). Log in to your Ubuntu-powered computer.
- 2). Open a terminal window by double-clicking on the terminal icon on your desktop. Or, alternately, click "Applications" in the left corner of the screen-top panel, then click "Accessories" > "Terminal."
- 3). Type the following command, without quotes, into the terminal window: "gksudo gedit /etc/hostname" and when prompted enter in the Administrator password for your computer.
- 4). Inside the "gedit" text file that appears, replace the current computer name with the name you want it to have. Save the file and restart your computer. When it boots back up, it will have the new computer name that you chose.
