- 1). Measure around the largest part of your arm. Multiply the result by four to get the number of stitches to start with. Don't have a tape measure? Casting on 56 stitches will give you a finished shrug that will be "one size fits most."
- 2). Cast on using your preferred method. Join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches, and place a stitch marker to indicate the start of a round.
- 3). Knit in the round for 6 inches for the first sleeve. Knit to the round marker, then turn your work and purl back in the other direction. Continue knitting flat in stockinette stitch for 16 inches, ending with a purl row.
- 4). Join to make the second sleeve by knitting across the row. At the end of the row, slip on the stitch marker, and resume knitting in the round.
- 5). Knit for 6 inches and bind off. Use the tapestry needle to weave in the loose ends, and block if desired.
