DIY Husqvarna Chainsaws Repairs

    Ignition System Repairs

    • 1). Disconnect the high-tension lead wire's black rubber boot from the spark plug. Use the socket wrench to unscrew the spark plug. Lift the spark plug and check the metal tip. If it's covered in black soot, replace it with a new spark plug. Inspect the inside of the high-tension wire's boot. Blow out any dust or debris and make sure the boot is securely fastened to the end of the wire.

    • 2). Unscrew the cooling system cover's four bolts. Lift the cover up and then pull it away to free it from the engine. Brush off the cover and clean it with a rag. Tilt the saw to its side and brush off the fins on the flywheel so that the dust falls away from the engine.

    • 3). Clean the area around the flywheel with the brush and rag. Inspect the two wires leading from the ignition module to the spark plug and "Stop" switch. Make sure they are securely fastened to the ignition module and that the short-circuit wire isn't touching any metal on the engine.

    • 4). Hold the cooling system's cover in your hand. Pull out the starter rope and check the function of the pulley and recoil spring. The starter rope should automatically rewind and the handle should stay upright on the cover. Unscrew the pulley's mounting screw and replace the pulley, starter rope and recoil spring if they aren't functioning properly.

    Fuel System Repairs

    • 1). Undo the cap on the fuel tank and lift it off. Drain all of the old fuel into the fuel container. Pour about one tbsp. of clean gasoline into the tank. Close the cap and shake the gas around inside the tank. Open the cap and dump out the gas. Clean the inside of the fuel tank with the brush and rag.

    • 2). Lift up the end of the fuel line and fuel filter with the metal hook. Bring them to the tank's opening and pull off the fuel filter from the end of the fuel line using the needle-nosed pliers.

    • 3). Press the new fuel filter onto the end of the fuel line. Push the fuel filter and fuel line back into the bottom of the tank. Fill the tank with two-cycle engine fuel mixed at a ratio of 50 parts gas to one part oil.

    Air System Repairs

    • 1). Undo the carburetor's protective cover on top of the saw. Unscrew the air filter and clean the filter, cover and the area around the filter's mounting plate with the brush and rag. Replace the air filter if it's covered in black soot and cannot be cleaned.

    • 2). Open up the front cover of the muffler with a screwdriver. Unscrew the spark arrestor screen from inside the muffler. Clean the screen with the brush and rag. Replace the spark arrestor screen if it's covered in black soot.

    • 3). Inspect the inside of the muffler and the exhaust port. Clean out the muffler and exhaust port with the brush and rag. Replace the muffler if the exhaust port cannot be cleaned thoroughly. Reinstall the spark arrestor screen, muffler cover, air filter and the protective cover to the Husqvarna.
