- 1). Measure the dimensions of the cushion pad based on the size cushion you plan on using. Add a seam allowance of 5/8 inch or 1.5 cm to all the edges.
- 2). Cut out two pieces of fabric that fit the size of the cushion as measured in Step 1. Include the seam allowance.
- 3). Place the right sides of the fabric pieces together and tack them together along the side.
- 4). Machine stitch 1-1/2 inches (4 cms) in from the edge of the tacked side and secure the thread ends.
- 5). Press the seam open and place the zipper right side down over the tacked section of the seam. Pin, tack and stitch each side of the zipper, using the zipper foot on the sewing machine, close to the zipper teeth.
- 6). Remove the tacks and stitches, and open the zipper.
- 7). Pin, tack and stitch around the other three sides with the right sides still together.
- 8). Insert the cushion pad into the cushion and close the zipper. Your new zipper cushion should now be fully functional.
