- 1). Park the Porsche on a flat, level surface. Ensure that it is in gear (or Park if it's a Tiptronic) and set the emergency brake.
- 2). With the ignition on (but the engine off), lift the top about 24 inches from the top of the windshield so that the portion of the top that covers the rear is at the highest point. Remove the key from the ignition so the top cannot be operated.
- 3). Disconnect the tension ropes on either side of the convertible top. These are attached with ball and socket hardware, so just pry them gently off by hand and they will come off.
- 4). Remove the cloth cover by pulling straight down on the plastic cover. Pull the area right near the clip holders on either side. Pull the top up and away from the frame and lay it towards to the back of the car so it is out of the way.
- 5). Remove the Bose speaker (if your Boxster is equipped with a Bose sound system) by rotating the four plastic locks that hold it in place. Move the speaker to access the plug that goes to the back of it and disconnect the plug.
- 6). Pull off the carpet trim on top of the engine cover. This will come right off. Remove the five bolts that hold the engine cover to the car with a socket and ratchet. Pull the engine cover up and out of the engine bay. You should see the engine underneath it. Installation is the opposite of removal.
