- 1). Check the gap of the new spark plugs, using the feeler gauge. A feeler gauge measures the space between the little strip of metal at the top of the plug and the firing point. The gap measures in thousandths of an inch. The gap on the Dodge Ram Hemi must be .045 thousandths. Insert the .045 blade in the gap. It should fit snugly, and drag when you pull the blade through it. If the blade does not fit, bend the filament out a bit, until the blade does fit. If it is too loose, you push the filament slightly inward.
- 2). Remove the first spark wire from the plug. Grasp the boot firmly and pull it off. Do not pull on the wire itself or you will damage the wire. Pull only one wire off at a time to avoid mixing up the firing order. Remove the spark plug by turning it counter-clockwise with the spark plug socket and ratchet.
- 3). Insert the new plug into the spark plug socket, and install it in the engine. Be careful that you do not cross-thread the socket. Tighten the plug snugly with the spark plug socket and ratchet.
- 4). Push the spark plug wire back on the plug, and push it on, until it snaps into place. Repeat the process on the next spark plug.
