- 1). Move the truck to a well-lighted, hard, flat area. Place blocks behind the rear wheels.
- 2). Use the tire iron to loosen, but not remove, the lug nuts. Jack the truck to a safe, comfortable working height. Remove the lug nuts from the wheel. Remove the tire and lay it under the truck frame behind the wheel.
- 3). Without damaging the rotor, place the screwdriver between the pad and rotor and pry the pad until it no longer moves. Use the rubber mallet to jam the screwdriver. Apply lubricant to break away bolts from tight, rusted threads. Use the socket and ratchet to remove the bolts on the opposite side of the calipers in their protective rubber boots.
- 4). Remove the calipers and brake pads. Inspect the rotor for wear or a scarred surface. Take the rotors to a shop for turning or replacement only if they are heavily scarred or worn. Check rotor rotation for smooth movement by moving the rotor slowly clockwise and counterclockwise.
- 5). Place the silicone grease that came with the brake pads on the back of each pad. Do not get any silicone grease on the face of the pad. Insert the brake pads in the caliper's clips. Use the c-clamp and a flat piece of wood to force the cylinder or piston into the caliper housing. Install the calipers with the pads back over the rotor. Align the rubber boots and the bolts to the holes in the caliper housing. Tighten the bolts with your ratchet and socket until it no longer moves. Do not cross-thread or break the bolts.
- 6). Place the tire wheel over the disc aligning the lug nuts to the holes of the wheel. Install the lug nuts, tightening each one only by hand. Lower the truck to the ground and tighten the lug nuts.
- 7). Take your truck for a short test drive. Check the brake fluid and fill if necessary.
