- 1). Take a flat head screwdriver and remove the door panel screws and snap-on clips. Use light pressure to remove snap-on clips. Remove the inside door panel.
- 2). Cut the weatherproofing plastic out of the car door with a utility knife. The black tape can stay in place.
- 3). Find the lift mechanism and the bracket and clips that hold the window in place. The white clip holds the glass in place. Remove any broken glass from the bracket and clips.
- 4). Slide your hands into gloves that glass splinters will not penetrate. Remove the broken glass from the lift and the bottom area of the door. Use a shop vacuum to remove any little pieces you can't see or feel.
- 5). Rub your fingertips along the weather stripping surrounding the window opening. Gently snap the weather proofing off the door. Check for more glass in the slot of the door frame and remove any pieces remaining. Reach inside the slot and remove the clips that hold the glass onto the lift arm.
- 6). Insert the new glass from the top and guide it to sit on the lift arm. Tighten the nuts that hold the glass in place. Use your fingers to tighten first and then use a ratchet, but be careful to not tighten the nuts so much the glass cracks or breaks.
- 7). Lift the arm with the new glass in place, making sure it doesn't catch on anything. If the glass window goes up and down without a problem, then reassemble the door. Don't forget to re-apply weatherproofing inside the door panel.
