- 1). Select your fabrics. There are six different parts to this organizer: outside body, inside body and four pockets. Consider using different fabrics for each part or use just one or two for a more coordinated appearance.
- 2). Cut out the fabric pieces. You need one 6-inch square for the outside body; one 6-inch square for the inside body; two rectangles each of 6 inches by 4 inches for pockets #1; two rectangles each 6 inches by 3 inches for pockets #2;
- 3). Cut out the fusible interfacing. You need one 5 1/2-inch square for the body; two rectangles 5 inches by 3 1/2 inches for pockets #1; two rectangles 5 inches by 2 1/2 inches for pockets #2. Cut 1/8 inch off each interfacing piece along one long side.
- 4). Iron the fusible interfacing to the fabric, following the manufacturer's instructions for the iron's setting. Place the interfacing on the wrong side of the fabric piece, 1/2 inch in from one end and 1/2 inch from the sides. Cover this with parchment paper to protect the iron. Press until the interfacing and fabric fuse together fully.
- 5). Place the fabric squares for the body on a flat surface, right sides out. Fold the pockets in half lengthwise, with the interfacing on the inside.
- 6). Position a pocket # 1 on the organizer body at one end, aligning the pocket with the sides and the short end of the organizer. Lay a pocket #2 on this, again aligning with the short edge and sides of the organizer body. Make sure all edges line up. Baste around the edge of this half of the organizer. Repeat this for the other end of the organizer.
- 7). Machine stitch all round the organizer, making sure that all layers of fabric are caught by the stitches. A zig-zag stitch will add extra security through all the layers.
- 8). Finish the raw edges. Baste the double fold tape so that the edges are covered. Machine stitch in place.
