How to Update Vista From Basic to Premium

    • 1). Log in to your Vista Basic user account, insert the Vista Home Premium upgrade disc, then click "Install now" when the auto-run window appears. (Using the "Check compatibility online" option is not necessary, since your computer is already running a version of Vista.)

    • 2). Click "Get important updates for installation" (recommended for a smooth, successful process). Wait while the updates are downloaded.

    • 3). Enter your product key into the "Type your product key for activation" prompt. This key can be found on the inside of your Vista Premium upgrade CD case.

    • 4). Read the license terms when prompted, then click "I accept the license terms."

    • 5). Click "Upgrade" when prompted to select an installation type. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the upgrade process.
