- 1). Chain 21. Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. Chain one and single crochet in each single crochet. Turn.
- 2). Repeat the last two rows until you have a rectangle the length of the dog's back, between the front and back legs.
- 3). At one long side edge of the rectangle, single crochet in eight stitches for the underside of the dog sweater. Chain one and turn. Continue adding rows until the underside will comfortably meet up with the other edge near the dog's front legs. For a small dog, this will be 12 rows. End off.
- 4). Reattach the yarn at the left top edge and single crochet in each single crochet of the top short rectangle edge only. Measure the dog's neck. Chain enough loops to meet the measurement and add one chain. For a small dog, make 15 chains. Connect to the first new single crochet with a slipstitch to make a neck loop. Single crochet five rounds for the neck loop.
- 5). Attach the sweater underside to the opposite side of the top rectangle by sewing with the yarn and a tapestry needle.
