- 1). Turn off your Regal's engine and open the glove box. The fuse panel is inside the glove box and can be accessed by pulling down the cover at the back of the glove box. Inside the fuse panel area are the fuses, a fuse puller tool and a few replacement fuses.
- 2). Locate the fuse numbered "6." This is the brake and hazard light fuse. If the fuse is broken, it will need to be replaced. A fuse is broken if the metal inside is no longer in one piece. Use the fuse-puller tool to remove the broken fuse. Replace it with a 15-amp replacement fuse. Close the glove box. If the problem still persists, there may also be an issue with the wiring of your brake lights.
- 3). Open the trunk. Remove the plastic nuts that secure the trunk trim over the taillights area by twisting them with your hands. Remove the plastic wing nut of the middle bulb. This is the brake-light bulb. Pull the taillight away from the body. Check that the bulb is securely plugged into the tail-lamp assembly. Check that the electrical connector at the rear of the tail-lamp assembly is securely connected. If there is still an issue, you may need to replace the bulb.
- 4). Squeeze the middle bulb socket and rotate it counterclockwise to remove it. Pull the bulb straight out to remove it from the socket. Use a paper towel to place the replacement bulb into the socket.
- 5). Place the socket back into the tail-lamp assembly. Place the assembly back into the vehicle. Reattach the plastic wing nut. Reinstall the plastic nuts to secure the trunk trim over the taillight area and close the trunk.
