- 1). Put a couple drops of each essential oil or fragrance oil you want to use in your perfume in a small vial. Swirl the oils around and let them sit for at least 24 hours. This will give you a good idea of exactly how your perfume will smell. If you are only using a single fragrance oil or essential oil, you can skip this part. Keep notes on the exact ratios you used for mixing your oils so that you can re-create the scent that you like.
- 2). Add the correct amount of perfumer's alcohol to the bottle in which you will be storing your perfume. The ratio for making perfume is 30 percent aromatic oils to 80 percent perfumer's alcohol. You can substitute the perfumer's alcohol for formulator's alcohol because both would work for perfume, but if you are using formulator's alcohol, you can change the ratio a little by using 65 percent alcohol and adding 5 percent distilled water. You can add water to formulator's alcohol, but not perfumer's alcohol.
- 3). Add each fragrance oil or essential oil to the alcohol separately and let each one dissolve completely before you add another one. Each essential oil should be completely blended and mixed into the alcohol before you add the next one because they will not blend right otherwise.
- 1). Decide what scented oils you will be using to make your linen spray. Lavender and chamomile are good for a calming effect and citrus scents such as grapefruit are more invigorating. Of course you can always mix essential or fragrance oils together that you like and ones that you know will harmonize well.
- 2). Pour 63 percent distilled water and 30 percent formulator's alcohol into a spray bottle that you will be storing your linen spray in. Linen sprays require the use of water, so formulator's alcohol is needed because it is made to be mixed with water. Do not use perfumer's alcohol.
- 3). Drop in your essential or fragrance oils that you want to use one at a time and wait for them to dissolves completely before you add the next one. The fragrance oils should total 7 percent to complete the correct ratio for making linen spray.
