- 1). Wipe the pen marked area of the floor using a soft rag dampened with warm water and a mild detergent. Go over the area several times to remove the pen mark.
- 2). Place a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a rag and wipe the ink off the hardwood floor. Hydrogen peroxide can also be used in this same manner. Test the product you are using on an inconspicuous area to ensure that it will not damage the flooring.
- 3). Apply some Murphy's Oil Soap to the pen marks using a dampened cloth. Rub the spot with the solution then wipe clean with a new cloth.
- 4). Make a solution of 1 oz. of oxalic acid and 1 qt. of water. Apply the solution to the ink-stained areas of the hardwood floor. Allow it to penetrate the stain for one hour and then wipe clean with a damp sponge. Repeat this process if necessary.
- 5). Sand the pen marked area if none of the above methods were effective. Use 80 or 120 grit sandpaper to lightly sand away the pen marks. Vacuum up any dust from sanding and wipe clean with a damp cloth. Refinish the area where the pen marks were located with a stain or paint to match the existing wood flooring.
