- 1). Pinpoint the source of the moisture trapped in the space. Mold relies on moisture to survive; therefore, it's imperative to find and eliminate the source of the moisture to prevent the mold from returning. Set up free-standing fans, and run them for 24 hours before the cleaning process. Allow the fans to run during the cleaning process.
- 2). Remove mold from its host surface by scraping it with a putty knife or mortar trowel. Be careful not to damage the material hosting the mold.
- 3). Pour a mixture of 1 part bleach to 1 part water into a spray bottle, and spray the molded areas liberally. Allow the areas to dry completely, and then scrape again.
- 4). Spray the treated surface with your bleach and water mixture again, and allow it to dry. Repeat these steps until the mold is no longer present.
