Renting Tile Cleaning Equipment

    Home Improvement Centers

    • Go to your local home improvement center (like Home Depot or Lowe's). As an added convenience to homeowners large home centers offer rental services for tile and floor cleaning equipment and other cleaning tools. Instead of a traditional floor cleaner (with the buffing tool), for really grimy tile cleaning jobs you might want to rent a water pressure washer to get in between the tile grooves. The cleaner rental departments at Home Depot, Lowe's and other home improvement stores are commonly located or associated with the customer service department. You will need to provide the store clerk with a credit card to back up your rental and fill out a rental contract. Expect to pay about $20 to $70 per day for a rental, depending on the equipment you choose.

    Department Stores and Supermarkets

    • Visit your local large department store like Macy's, JCPenneys, or Wal-Mart. These stores commonly have special sections where you can rent cleaning supplies and equipment for your tiles, like steam cleaners and buffers. Some supermarkets also rent out floor cleaners at the checkout area before you leave. Expect to pay around $30 or $40 per day for a steam cleaner or floor cleaner from one of these outlets.

    Sunbelt Rentals

    • Sunbelt Rentals is an online cleaning equipment rental site that allows you to find tile cleaner rentals in 35 states and Washington D.C. Just type in the keyword "tile" and select "Cleaning and Maintenance" for the category. Type in your zip code and allow the site to find tile cleaners that are available for renting near you. You can also just find the tool that you need and then enter your location to find one that is available close to you. Sunbelt has floor buffers, scrubbers, and other tile cleaners available in certain areas.

    Considerations

    • When you rent tile cleaning equipment, the old adage applies: if you break it, you bought it. At least you will pay a hefty fine to have the equipment restored to its original condition. Even if you didn't cause the damage, you could be held responsible for it, so be sure that you look over the equipment and the rental contract thoroughly so that you will know what to expect in case of a problem before taking your rental home. You may also need to buy additional supplies to be used with your tile cleaner, such as a strong cleaning solution to apply to the tile grooves and floor polish to go with your buffer.
