- 1). Hold the bead chain connector on one side of the split with flat-head jewelry pliers. Make sure to grip the metal ring firmly with the pliers.
- 2). Grip the bead chain connector on the opposite side of the split with bent chain-nose pliers. Grip the metal securely.
- 3). Push the flat-head pliers forward while simultaneously pulling the bent chain-nose pliers backward. The forward-backward motion will separate the bead chain connector and open it at the split without distorting the shape of the circle or weakening the metal. Only separate the ring wide enough to slide the chain, bail or other jewelry finding through the space.
- 4). Slide the beaded chain or other jewelry component over the open connector. Hold the sides of the open bead chain connector the same way as you did when you separated the split.
- 5). Pull the flat-head jewelry pliers towards you and push the bent chain-nose jewelry pliers away from you to close the bead chain connector.
