How to Start Windows Repair in Vista

    Installation Disk

    • 1). Insert the Windows Vista installation disc into your optical drive.

    • 2). Click "Start," select the arrow to the right of the "Lock" button in the start menu and choose "Restart." "Press any key to boot from CD" will appear at the top of the screen. Press "Enter" to boot from the CD. The Windows Vista installation window will appear.

    • 3). Click the "Language to install" drop-down menu and select your language. Click the "Keyboard" drop-down menu, and choose your keyboard layout. For example, if you use a standard U.S. keyboard, select "US." Click "Next."

    • 4). Click the "Repair your computer" option at the bottom of the screen. A list of installed operating systems will appear.

    • 5). Highlight "Microsoft Windows Vista," and click "Next." A list of System Recovery Options will appear. Click on "Startup Repair."

    Pre-Installed on Hard Drive

    • 1). Remove any disks in your computer optical drive.

    • 2). Click "Start," select the arrow to the right of the "Lock" button in the start menu, and choose "Restart."

    • 3). Press the "F8" key on your computer and hold it while the computer boots up. The Advanced Boot Options screen will appear.

    • 4). Scroll down to "Repair your computer" using the arrow keys on your keyboard. Press "Enter."

    • 5). Click the "Language to install" drop-down menu and select your language. Click the "Keyboard" drop-down menu and choose your keyboard layout. For example, if you use a standard U.S. keyboard, select "US." Click "Next."

    • 6). Choose one of the Vista account usernames from the list and enter the associated password. Note that you should choose an account with administrator access. Click "OK." A list of System Recovery Options will appear.

    • 7). Click on "Startup Repair."
