- 1). Open a graphics software on your computer such as Adobe Photoshop, JASC Paint Shop Pro or GIMP. Click in the color box and find the "Web Colors" or "Hex" box. Hex codes have six digits, usually preceded by a "#" symbol. For instance, white is "#FFFFFF" and black is "#000000." Hex codes number and letters (A-F), such as blue or "#0D2599."
- 2). Download the "Instant Eyedropper" program from Instant-Eyedropper.com to be able to select any part of your screen and find out the hex code. Save the file to the desktop, then double click the .EXE file to open and install. Once installed, Instant Eyedropper places a color wheel on your system tray. Left click and hold to change your mouse to an eyedropper. Click anywhere on the screen to select a color to get the hex code. The color code copies to your clipboard. Paste into "Notepad" to see the color code.
- 3). Look up the hex color code on a web chart. Many sites provide color code charts with all the different colors, from neutrals to purples. December.com provides the Hex Hub, while Visibone has a web color chart. 2 Create a Website also provides a color chart and code generator.
- 1). Write down the values for red, green and blue. For example, in Paint (included in Windows), open the color picker. On the bottom right, you see the "RGB" values. To the right, the boxes contain numbers for each value. As an example, you may see red as 13, green as 37 and blue as 153.
- 2). Open the program "Calculator" from "Accessories." Click "View" then select "Scientific." Click on the bubble beside "Dec" below the text entry box.
- 3). Enter the first number, which is the value for Red or "13." Click on "Hex" to get the letter "D." If you get a single number when clicking "Hex," then precede the letter or number with "0." In the example, red becomes "0D" as the first part of the hex code.
- 4). Click "Dec" again, then enter the value for green or "37." Click "Hex" to get the number 25. Now, the hex code is "0D25."
- 5). Find the hex code for the past part by clicking "Dec" again, then enter the value for blue or "153." Click "Hex" to get "99." Now, you have the hex code for your color, which is "#0D2599."
