Chevy 2000 Cavalier Engine Specs

    2.2-Liter Engine

    • The 2.2-liter, in-line four-cylinder engine powered all Cavalier Base models and was standard equipment with the LS trim level, as well. This engine featured an 8-valve pushrod design with a 3.50-inch bore, a 3.46-inch stroke and a 9.0-to-1 compression ratio. Output for this motor was rated at 115 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 135 foot-pounds of torque at 3,600 rpm.

    2.4-Liter Engine

    • Chevrolet offered a 2.4-liter, in-line four-cylinder engine as an option on LS trim levels and as standard equipment on the Z24 model. This larger displacement engine used a 16-valve dual overhead camshaft design with a 3.54-inch bore, a 3.70-inch stroke and a 9.7-to-1 compression ratio. Output was rated at 150 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 155 foot-pounds of torque at 4,400 rpm.

    Fuel Economy

    • The 2.2-liter, in-line four-cylinder engine yielded 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on highway driving when paired to the three-speed automatic; while the four-speed automatic produced the same fuel economy during city driving, highway fuel economy increased to 29 mpg. The five-speed manual paired to the 2.2-liter engine yielded 21 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The 2.4-liter, in-line four-cylinder engine produced 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway when paired to the four-speed automatic, while the five-speed manual yielded 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.
