The "Lord Teach Us to Pray" Toddler Crafts

    Bubble Craft

    • Provide toddlers with crayons and a white piece of paper. Instruct them to draw and color small and large bubbles like the ones parents blow for them outdoors. Afterward take them outdoors and blow large and small bubbles, letting them pop them. Spread a blanket for them to sit on as you ask them to share what are big problems they pray about and then little problems. Assure them God hears their prayers despite how big or small the problem is mentioned and that our prayers float to God's ears like the bubbles float in the air.

    Praying Hands

    • Have toddlers clasp their hands in prayer and lay them on a black 8-1/2 by 12 piece of construction paper for you to draw an outline of them and cut. Give each child a white piece of same-sized poster board. Help them glue the praying hands in the center of it. Provide each child with crayons to draw items they pray about on the remaining space on the board. Remind them that praying for people in our life and about situations is an important way to talk to God.

    Prayer Box

    • Provide toddlers with small boxes covered in pretty paper or foil and this bible verse, "Pray without ceasing." Tell them that the term "without ceasing" in this 1 Thessalonians Chapter 5:17 means they should never give up praying for others -- or to God. Give them 10 small paper slips and a pencil. Ask them to write the name of one person they know on each paper slip and then to fold it and put it in the box. Send them home with the instruction to take out one piece of paper every morning and to pray for that person throughout the day, choosing another piece of paper the next day.

    Book of Prayers

    • Supply each toddler with a mutli-colored paper book tied together with string and containing five sheets of paper approximately 7 by 7 inches, which are numbered one through five. Provide toddlers with five white pieces of paper slightly smaller in size that contain simple portions of prayers written on them, such as the Lord's prayer: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,' and the next verse, 'Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Ask toddlers to glue the prayer page that has the number one on it onto the same page number in their prayer book. Read the complete prayer out loud to them when they are finished, so they can recite the prayer at home later.
