How to Reset the Computer in a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am

    • 1). Open the fuse panel under the steering column by pulling down on it with your fingers.

    • 2). Locate the fuse for the electronic control unit, or ECU. Use the fuse diagram to locate the fuse for the ECU.

    • 3). Pull the fuse for the ECU using the fuse pullers in the fuse panel.

    • 4). Turn the ignition to the "on" position, but don't crank the engine.

    • 5). Wait 5 minutes and reinsert the ECU fuse. Wait for the "check engine" light to stop blinking and shut off. The computer on your 1999 Grand AM will be reset at this point.
