Story Synopsis
Dark and eerie, Vampire Princess Miyu is the story of a 13 year old vampire who must hunt down the demons and return them to their realm, The Dark.

Miyu is a 13 year old girl who leads a normal, albeit semi-lonely life with her parents. Until, that is, she meets Larva a Shinma sent to kill her.

But Larva waited too long and as he attempts to take her life, her vampire awakens and Miyu sinks her teeth deep into his neck.

Because of the blood they share, Larva becomes Miyu's servant and, as the story develops, her companion as well. After Miyu's mother reveals that she and her parents are vampires, the leader of the Shinma arrives to take Miyu. Her mother saves her and says Miyu must become the guardian of The Dark. Ultimately, Miyu flees leaving her destiny behind and, as a result, her parents become trapped in a room of glass.

The only way for Miyu to free her parents is to hunt the Shinma and return them to The Dark. Will Miyu succeed?

About this Anime
Vampire Princess Miyu is definitely one of the darker anime storylines but well worth the watch. Its not overly scary or filled with splashes of gore. Instead, the "spooky factor" is an underlying feel to the show and fans are given an implied sense of the unspeakable. So although parental guidance is suggested if there are little ones around, Vampire Princess Miyu is definitely a keeper.

Vampire Princess Miyu is the work of Toshiki Hirano, also known for his directorial genius in Magic Knight Rayearth. The story and character design is by Narumi Kakinouchi, who wrote the original manga series. Kakinouchi is also the creative mind behind Juline, another great TOKYOPOP manga.
