- 1). Open the paint can lid. Using a painter's tool, pry open the lid by working your away its edge in one-inch increments and set the lid aside.
- 2). Pour out some paint. Using a clean and empty gallon can, pour approximately half the paint out of the full can into the empty container.
- 3). Stir with the stirring stick. Any clean wooden or metal stick will work. By pouring the paint into another container, the level is reduced so paint won't slop out when stirring. This allows you to more vigorously stir the paint in each can, working the paint up from the bottom toward the top.
- 4). Combine both cans into one. Pour the paint from the second can back into the original and gently stir so you don't slop paint over the can's edge. Your paint is now thoroughly mixed and can be poured into your final painting container.
