- 1). Click "Start" and click "Run" if you are using Windows XP. Type "msconfig" (without quotes) in the "Run" box and press "Enter." If you are using Windows 7 or Vista, type "msconfig" (without quotes) in the "Start Search" box located on the Start menu and click "msconfig" under "Programs." If prompted, type your administrator user name and password and click "OK." Click "Continue" to launch the Systems Configuration Utility.
- 2). Click the "Startup" tab. You should see a list of the programs, applications and system components that launch automatically when you start your computer.
- 3). Uncheck the programs you want to remove from the Startup menu and click "Apply." Click "OK" and restart your computer. The programs you remove from the Startup menu will no longer launch when Windows starts again.
