- 1). Turn on your GPS unit. Find your unit's proprietary Route Planning feature. For example, the Marengo GPSU units have the beginning of the process labeled "Route Name." Consult your unit's manual if you have questions.
- 2). Enter your starting location on your GPS unit. If you have coordinates enter those, as they are more precise than city names.
- 3). Mark waypoints along your route. Use the GPS maps function to find fueling stations, restaurants or other locations along your route.
- 4). Name your waypoints and stops. Most GPS units have a keypad on the screen to allow you to enter names. Name your route stops whatever you choose. If you do not wish to name them, use the default names found on the maps for your route stops.
- 5). Save your planned route. Use your GPS's function to save the route. When ready to begin the drive, hit the find route option on the menu and wait for the road maps to appear with your route lines placed over the maps.
