- 1). Place the Crestline window into the rough opening in the wall to see if it fits.
- 2). Load a tube of caulk into a caulk gun. Cut off the tip of the caulk with a utility knife. Apply a bead of caulk along the back of the nailing fin of the window.
- 3). Place the window into the rough opening. Use a long level to check the window to see if it is plumb and level. Adjust the window with wood blocks and shims as needed, until it is centered.
- 4). Nail the window in place with 16d casing nails and a hammer. Start at the corners of the window and then space the rest of the nails along the nailing fin. Check the window to ensure that it is still level and plumb periodically as you are nailing it in place. This is important because the window can shift while you work.
- 5). Install molding around the outside of the window. Most windows that have nailing fins can be purchased with special-order molding. Follow the manufacturer directions to install the molding around the outside of the window.
- 6). Install insulation between the window and the window framing. Push the insulation in place with gloved hands.
- 7). Trim away the wooden shims so they are flush with the framing. Score the shims with a utility knife and snap off the shim.
- 8). Apply paintable silicone caulk around the entire window. Smooth the caulk with your finger.
