- 1). Peel the pin stripe away from the car, starting at the front or rear of the stripe. Newer pin stripes may come off easily if peeled slowly. Park the car in the sun for an hour so that the sun heats the pin stripe before peeling it off (that will facilitate easier peeling).
- 2). Heat the pin stripe with a heat gun or hair dryer. Keep the gun about four to six inches from the surface of the car. Hold it for five seconds on one section and then move slightly to heat the next section. Use a fingernail, plastic scraper or credit card to slowly start peeling the pin stripe up where it has been heated. Proceed down the car for the length of the pin stripe using this method.
- 3). Attach a rubber wheel to a drill and place it on the pin stripe at one end. Use the wheel against the pin stripe as you slowly move the drill down the side of the car. The rubber wheel causes excessive friction against the car and removes the pin stripe, but does not damage the paint.
- 1). Sand the pin stripe with 800 grit sandpaper, keeping the sandpaper completely wet at all times. Sand until the pin stripe is gone. Go over the sanded area with 1200 grit paper, keeping the paper wet. This may be very time-consuming.
- 2). Apply liquid buffing compound to the sanded areas and buff the car. The entire car can be buffed or only the sanded section.
- 3). Apply a coat of wax or car polish to the area, allow it to dry, and then wipe with a dry cloth.
