How to Remove a Factory Car Stereo in a 1998 Galant

    • 1). Unhook the negative battery cable (--) with the pliers before beginning. This prevents an accidental short circuit and/or electrical shock when removing the stereo.

    • 2). Grasp the corner of the gearshift trim panel. Pull the trim panel up to unclip it from the center console. Set the panel to the side. With the panel removed, two Phillips screws will be be visible.

    • 3). Remove the two Phillips screws from beneath the center dash panel. Grasp the center dash panel and pull it away. Unplug the connections behind the center dash panel (for the climate control and rear defroster).

    • 4). Remove the four Phillips head screws that secure the radio, then slide out the factory radio. Unplug the harness and cable from the rear.
