How to Make a Slip Cover for a Bean Bag

    • 1). Measure the bean bag when it is set onto its top or bottom. Try to keep the shape as structured and uniform as possible as you measure. Measure the length of the bag from top to bottom and the width from side to side. Draw a rectangle matching these measurements onto a sheet of butcher paper. Add one inch to all measurements for a seam allowance.

    • 2). Measure the circumference of the top and bottom of the bean bag as well. Draw a circular pattern that matches the circumference measurement to make the top and bottom of the slipcover. Add 1 inch to the circles for a seam allowance. Cut out all patterns.

    • 3). Lay the patterns around the bean bag to check the size. The patterns should be large enough to easily fit around the bean bag and cover it entirely.

    • 4). Lay the patterns onto fabric and cut out one rectangle and two circles. Turn the fabric wrong side out.

    • 5). Sew the two short sides of the rectangle together using a half-inch seam allowance. Pin one circle to one side of the loop. Sew the fabric into place with a half-inch seam allowance.

    • 6). Sew half of the second circle to the other side of the loop with a half-inch seam allowance. Sew a quarter-inch hem to the exposed portion of the remaining fabric. Turn the slipcover right side out.

    • 7). Glue, sew or tape several pieces of Velcro to the open side of the slipcover. This will enable you to easily take the cover off to wash it. Slip the bean bag inside the slipcover and seal the Velcro.
