- 1). Combine ½ teaspoon liquid dish washing soap, ½ cup white vinegar and 1 cup warm water in a shallow bowl. Wait for the stove top to cool, and then apply the solution to any soiled areas with a damp sponge. Squeeze the sponge lightly to moisten the crusty residue, and then wait one hour to give the material time to soften.
- 2). Place the blade of a utility knife near the edge of any heavy deposits. Hold the blade at a slight angle and scour the material lightly. Work from the outer edges toward the center to remove the scorched mess without damaging the stove.
- 3). Pour 1 tablespoon baking soda onto a small plate. Dip a damp cloth into the soda, and lightly scrub the stove to remove any remaining debris. Let the treatment dry for one to two hours, and then rinse the cook top with warm water and rub down with a fresh cloth. Repeat, if necessary, until the burnt patches are no longer evident.
- 4). Wash the stove top with warm water and dish washing soap, rinse thoroughly and wipe dry with a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent streaking or spotting.
