- 1). Take note of the message or messages being displayed on your screen; each one indicates a different potential cause or problem.
- 2). Restart your computer to see if it returns to the BSOD again. You may be able to access Windows normally. Even if your computer starts normally the second time, however, make sure and keep track of any error messages, as they can prove value to a repair specialist in the event that your problem recurs in the future.
- 3). Attempt to access "Safe Mode" if Windows won't boot all the way. Select "Safe Mode" from the black-screen menu that pops up when your computer restarts. If you can successfully enter Safe Mode, restart your computer using the "Start" menu and attempt to access the full version of Windows.
- 4). Try to boot your computer using your Windows installation CD. If that doesn't work, it might be time to call a repair specialist.
