How to Make an Origami Basketball Hoop

    • 1). Fold your piece of paper in half lengthwise; then fold it in half lengthwise again.

    • 2). Open the second of the two folds so that you have a 4x10-inch piece of paper with a line down the middle.

    • 3). Lay the piece of paper in front of you, perpendicular (at right angles) to your body. Fold the top right-hand corner of the paper across the width of the sheet to the paper’s edge, creating a triangle. Unfold it and repeat with the top left-hand corner. You should have an “x” pattern in the top third of your paper.

    • 4). Turn the paper over and fold the top end of the paper over, touching the top two corners of the “x” with the bottom two. This creates a crease across the center of the “x”.

    • 5). Turn the paper back over and push your index finger into the center of the “x”; two triangles with a line down the middle (the crease from your last fold) should pop up to the left and right of your fingers.

    • 6). Push the middle of the two triangles together from behind with your two index fingers, and fold them down onto the paper, creating two new triangles--one two-dimensional, pressed against the paper and the other three-dimensional, sticking out from the center of the first.

    • 7). Take the two bottom ends of the three-dimensional triangle and fold them down on top of the first triangle, creating the appearance of a single triangle at the end of a rectangle (the excess paper below).

    • 8). Use your left and right thumbs and index fingers to curl the two bottom points of the triangle in towards the center of the triangle. Slide the corner of the triangle in your right hand into the corner of the left, and push it in until it stays without the aid of your hand. Their should be a pocket created by the overlapping paper. This will create the basketball rim.

    • 9). Fold the remaining rectangle of the paper lengthwise, half an inch on each side, so that the paper will stand on the table free of support and prop up the basketball net.
