Kitchen Wall & Cabinet Colors

    Shades of Blue

    • Variations of blue can make the kitchen appear slightly larger and is a calming shade that will make your family feel more relaxed when in the kitchen space. Blue is also said to decrease the appetite, which could help you and your loved ones to eat a little less and focus on enjoying each other's company. Light shades of blue are demure and welcoming; walls and cabinets in this shade are best accented with white appliances. Darker and medium shades of blue, like denim or navy on the kitchen cabinets look good with silver handles.

    Oranges and Pinks

    • Orange promotes concentration, making it easier for you to focus on getting a new recipe just right. Pink, a lighter shade of red, can increase the appetite without overwhelming the kitchen space. Pink walls with orange cabinets give the kitchen a warm feel that makes the area appear more open. Peachy shades of orange look best with pastel pinks; light orange is a classy accent for deep pink shades like magenta. Orange kitchen walls also look good with stainless steel appliances; black kitchen accents like cannisters and decorative dishes are striking in an orange and pink kitchen as well.

    Yellows

    • An increase in metabolism happens when the color yellow is featured in the kitchen. Yellow can cause irritation when viewed in large concentrations, so use pastel yellow for the walls in the kitchen. A bolder shade of yellow, like lemon or daffodil, can be added to the cabinet trim for a burst of color in a kitchen where neutral colors are predominant, such as yellow handles on medium-colored oak cabinets. Yellow kitchen accents, like a mixer or decorative bowls, add a monochromatic look when positioned next to the walls and will stand out against neutral-colored counters.

    Red

    • Red means passion; it increases the appetite and lends vigor and energy to any space. Cherry red cabinets are striking in the kitchen and impressive against white walls. Painting the walls berry red or a deeper shade like pomegranate and burgundy add sophistication to the kitchen and look particularly appealing with dark wood cabinets. Paint the borders of the cabinets with red to add warmth and openness to the kitchen without major changes to the cabinets; red handles on white, black or medium and dark wood cabinets are a small but noticeable decor accent as well.
