How Does Heated Tile Floor Work?

    The Purpose of Heated Floors

    • Heated floors are used to keep floors warm in places where you might be in bare feet like the tile floor of a home bathroom. They can be expensive to install, so they are not seen in many homes. The best way to have them installed is during construction, when costs will be lower due to the fact that you won't have to tear up the floor to put them in.

    How It Is Done

    • To install the system, a mat that has the heating mechanism woven into it is placed just above the subfloor. Wiring is then run from the heating mats to the wall and up to a switch. On top of the mat, a protective layer is put down to keep the system fire safe. The flooring is then installed and the system is ready for use.

    How to Operate It

    • Once the heated floors are in place, operation of the unit is fairly easy. It usually comes with a dial that you use to turn it on and off. Some more expensive models will come with a programming unit that will turn it on and off for you at times that you enter into the system. This way, for example, you can have your floors warm first thing in the morning when you wake up.
