How to Grout Bathtub Tile

    • 1). Fill one bucket with clean water. Mix the grout into another bucket. Follow the manufacturer's directions. Each manufacturer requires different mixing instructions. Only mix as much grout as you will need. Smaller jobs will require less grout, so mixing the entire bag or box of grout may be wasteful. Keep in mind that you can always mix more grout later if you need it.

    • 2). Moisten the tile before grouting, using a sponge and a bucket of clean water. Simply run the sponge over the bathtub tile. Do not leave standing water in the joints.

    • 3). Apply the grout to the moistened joints, using a rubber float. For best results, hold the float at a 45-degree angle while you spread the grout over the tile joints. Squeeze the grout into the joints entirely.

    • 4). Wipe away the excess grout with the rubber float. Moving diagonally, catch the excess grout on the float, placing it back into the bucket with the grout. Repeat this process with all of the bathtub grout. Do not grout the space between the tube and the tiles.

    • 5). Remove the grout haze from the front of the tile face, using a dampened grout sponge. Use plenty of water. Be careful not to remove any of the grout from the tile joints. You are just wiping away the grout from the face of the tile. Allow the grout to dry for 24 to 48 hours.

    • 6). Apply a thin bead of caulk to the joints between the tube and the tile. If possible, match the caulk color to the grout.
