    • 2). Click the "System and Security" link and select the "Backup and Restore" option. Chose "Back up and Restore." Follow the on-screen instructions to create backup copies of your data to the USB drive or DVD.

    • 3). Disconnect the USB drive or eject the DVD. Place the Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive and restart the operating system.

    • 4). Wait for the "Press any key" prompt to pop-up on the screen and tap a key to load the Windows 7 installation disc. Select the language and time options you want to use in the drop-down menus and click "Next."

    • 5). Click the option to select the Windows 7 license agreement and choose "Next" again. Choose "Custom" and select the "Drive Options (Advanced)" option.

    • 6). Click the entry for the hard drive partition that currently contains the Windows 7 operating system. Click the "Format" link at the bottom of the screen and select "OK" to confirm the choice.

    • 7). Select the formatted hard drive partition and click "Next" to perform the clean installation. Use the Windows installation prompts that appear on the screen to create a new user name and choose your computer's Internet connection options.

    • 8). Copy the data you saved earlier back to your computer's hard drive from the USB drive or DVD.
