How to Weave With Waxed Linen

    • 1). Place your left middle finger and ring finger behind the spokes in the piece you are working on. The left little finger should be placed in front of the object you are weaving and the other two fingers on the left hand should support the object. The right hand should hold the weavers or thread loosely and never release it, unless you are stopping. The weavers are held by the right little, ring and middle fingers as the thumb and index fingers do the weaving.

    • 2). Put your right middle finger on the right thread and put the left weaver between the right thumb and index finger. Place the right index finger under the weaver, pull across and lift.

    • 3). Pick up the first spoke with your left hand. Crisscross the thread over the spoke. Pull the spoke toward an 11 o' clock position, while the right weaver is pulled toward 5 o'clock. The tighter you pull the waxed linen, the tighter the weave will be. Press down on the weaver with the index finger of the right hand.

    • 4). Switch to the other thread or weaver and cross over, then under, the spoke with the thread. Pull gently to make the weave tight.

    • 5). Continue alternating threads until your row is complete. Try to make the thread as tight as possible without overlapping.

    • 6). Comb the spoke down with your finger and slide a new spoke on top of it. To create a weave that leans inward, angle the spokes inward as you weave. The opposite advice applies if you wants the weave to lean outward.

    • 7). Repeat steps 3 through 6 until your weave is complete.

    • 8). Lay the woven object in a cool place and let it set for two to four hours.
