- 1). Grip the barrel of the disposable pen with a pliers. Pull the barrel off and discard it in the trash. Pull the pen tube out of the front of the pen. Remove the spring from over the pen tube.
- 2). Measure the length of the pen. Place the point of the blade of a utility knife against the pen at the halfway mark. Twist the blade to make a hole in the pen. Continue twisting the blade for another 10 seconds.
- 3). Turn the pen over. Place the point of the blade of the utility knife against the raised bump on the pen from the first cut-and-twist of the blade. Twist the blade to open a hole in this side of the pen.
- 4). Measure 3 inches from one end of the pen. Cut through the pen at the 3-inch mark with the blade of the utility knife.
- 5). Push the 3-inch cut piece of pen through the hole in the side of the pen. Stop pushing when the cut piece is sticking out of both sides of the pen.
- 6). Tape an end of the rubber band to the end of the pen that is farthest from the cut piece of pen -- cellophane tape or masking tape can be used for this. Stretch the rubber band to the other end of the pen -- on the same side as one of the holes that is in the pen -- and tape it in the same manner as was just done.
- 7). Wrap strips of cellophane tape around the point on the pen tube. Insert the end of the pen tube that does not have tape on it through the cut piece of pen so that it lies against the rubber band.
- 8). Go outside in your backyard. Hold your mini crossbow so that the taped end of the pen tube is facing towards a tree or rock. Grip the end of the pen tube and the rubber band together. Pull back on them both until the rubber band is fully extended. Release the rubber band to fire your "arrow" from the mini crossbow.
