- 1). Call your service professional to determine if they have any specific requirements for the room having the carpet installed. Have the installer visit you house so specifics are laid out in advance.
- 2). Measure the space underneath doors in the room having the carpet installed to determine whether the doors require raising.
- 3). Remove all furniture from the room as well as breakable items from the ceiling and wall and move these items to a convenient storage area. Remove drapes from windows if they touch the floor. Ask your installer whether this is a service they will perform if you are not physically capable of doing it yourself.
- 4). Use a pry bar or flat-head screwdriver to remove any baseboard molding or trim from the floor area before having carpet installed. Be careful not to damage the wall when removing the trim. If the carpet installers need to perform this task, it may result in an extra charge in some cases, says the World Floor Covering Association.
- 5). Disconnect any electrical appliances and remove gas appliances from areas that require carpeting.
