How to Replace a Headlight Bulb on a 1999 Pontiac Sunbird

    • 1). Raise the hood and rest it on the support rod. Remove the bolt over the headlight assembly with a socket and ratchet.

    • 2). Pry the plastic shield up with a flat-bladed screwdriver. Use the screwdriver to pull up on the fasteners, releasing the shield.

    • 3). Remove the mounting bolt on the headlight assembly with a socket and ratchet. Pull the headlight assembly forward out the front of the car.

    • 4). Turn the bulb 1/8-turn counterclockwise and remove it from the light assembly. Lift the locking tab to release the bulb from the socket. Pull out the bulb and discard it.

    • 5). Insert a new bulb into the socket until the locking tab clicks. Install the bulb into the headlight assembly and turn it 1/8-turn clockwise to lock it in position.

    • 6). Insert the headlight assembly into the front of the car. Secure the light assembly with the bolt. Tighten the bolt with a socket and ratchet.

    • 7). Press the plastic shield into place until it locks. Replace the retaining bolt and tighten it with a socket and ratchet.
