- 1). Choose your materials. If you use cotton crochet thread, you will need to use a small steel crochet hook (approximately size C), and your angel will be small; for a larger angel, use an H hook and worsted weight cotton yarn.
- 2). Crochet the head. Make two chain stitches, and then make five single crochet stitches in the second chain; join with a slip stitch to form a circle. Chain one, and make two single crochet stitches in every stitch around for the second round; for rounds three, four and five, work one single crochet stitch in every stitch around. For round six, single crochet together two stitches around so that you can get back down to five stitches.
- 3). Crochet the body. Crochet evenly around for two rounds, then increase by making two single crochet stitches in every stitch around. Alternate a pattern of making one round of even stitches and one round of increase stitches until the cone of the angel's body reaches the desired size. Finish off, and weave in your ends using a large-eye blunt needle.
- 4). Add wings to the angel's back. Crochet a triangle by making two chain stitches, with a single crochet in the second chain. Chain one and turn, and make two single crochets in the next row. For row three, make two single crochets in the first and last stitches of the row and one single crochet in each of the center two stitches. Repeat this for row four, making two stitches in the first and last stitch, and then make one stitch in each of the center four stitches. Fasten off, and repeat for the second wing. Sew the wings to the angel's back using a large-eye blunt needle.
- 5). Dip the entire angel into liquid starch, squeeze out the excess and let it dry. Place the angel's body over a styrofoam crafting cone or a plastic bottle to help her hold her shape as she dries. When she is fully dry, her body will be stiff so she can hold her place on the tree.
