- The exhaust system of a motorcycle, as in most automobiles, is responsible for the release of gases. These gases, which are often noxious or dangerous, are created in the engine during the process of combustion. The exhaust is designed to route these gases out into the air.
- The engine of a motorcycle is partly composed of cylinders. These feed several exhaust pipes, which are typically fashioned out of stainless steel. The gas is fed into the pipes and carried outside the bike. The muffler attached to the exhaust pipe diminishes the noise pollution emanating from engine function.
- At first release from the engine, the gases formed are poisons -- carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. The contemporary motorcycle is equipped with a catalytic converter. This piece helps to convert these dangerous gases into a purer form of water vapor, which is much friendlier to the atmosphere.
