- 1). Remove the lid from the can. Your goal is to make the trap look like a green leprechaun hat with a buckle. Measure the height and circumference (length around the circle) of the can. Cut a rectangle of identical size from the green felt. Glue the felt rectangle around the can. Place the can bottom-down on the work surface.
- 2). Cut a hole in the lid. Trace the lid, including the hole, onto a piece of felt. Cut out the felt and glue it onto the lid. Trace the lid onto the felt again, ignoring the central hole. Cut out this complete circle and place it, unglued, over the lid. Place the lid back on the can.
- 3). Cut a large circle from green felt, approximately twice the size of the bottom of the can. Center the can on this circle and glue it in place.
- 4). Cut a two inch wide band, equal to the circumference of the can, from black felt. Glue it along the bottom of the can. Cut a two and a half-inch wide square from yellow felt. Cut a half-inch square from the center of the cut square. Glue it on the center of the black band.
- 5). Fashion a ladder from drinking straws. The ladder should be just a little taller than the can. If necessary, connect multiple straws together to connect the side rails by forcing one end of a straw into the opening of another straw. Cut the remaining straws in half and glue them perpendicular to the side rails as rungs.
- 6). Position the trap in the desired location. Prop the ladder up against the can.
- 7). Set the bait by placing plastic gold coins, plastic jewelry and gold glitter on the felt piece that covers the opening of the lid. Leprechauns who approach the bait will fall through the hole, into the can.
- 1). Cover a paper bowl with green paper. Glue the paper in place. Decorate as desired.
- 2). Prop up one side of the bowl with a toothpick.
- 3). Place bait underneath the bowl, near the toothpick. Leprechauns who try to take the bait will bump the toothpick, trapping themselves inside.
